A project of North East farming Futures Group (see neffgroup.com.au) the Plant Sleuth app documents native plants (and some imported species) which can be useful for stock feed during drought and other shortages of feed.
Typically farmers have not been aware of these plants and have not known how to recognise them or make use of them.
The app presents information about each species, including pictures and possible uses.
A major requirement of the app was that it run on mobile phones outside reception areas. Farmers wanted to be able to hold a picture against a suspect plant, to identify it. The H-DAM structure delivered this and more. Famers can also record notes about plants they and share these notes with other users.
Plant Sleuth is in the iTunes store.
